American law company Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe has expanded its corporate practice in Tokyo with the appointment of Edward Johnson as a partner in its M&A and private equity practice group.

In this role, Johnson will focus on cross-border mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, restructurings and other strategic transactions.

Johnson, who will based in Orrick’s Tokyo office, will also advise clients in dispute resolution and compliance matters involving the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and other anti-corruption, regulatory and competition law issues.

Johnson joins Orrick from Paul Hastings where he served as the managing partner of the company’s Tokyo office.

He joined Paul Hastings in 1994 as an associate in the company’s Atlanta office and was relocated to Tokyo in 2000 before becoming a partner in 2004.

Orrick chairman Mitch Zuklie said, "We’re extremely excited to add another market-leading corporate practitioner focused on cross-border transactions to our Japan Practice."
