At Northern Trust, Mertz has been appointed as a senior private banker and relationship manager and will lead a three-person banking team that will provide clients with personalized deposit and credit solutions as well as commercial credit, Financial Planning stated.

Previously, Mertz was a wealth management team leader for PNC Bank in Bethesda for three years, prior to which he had held managerial and banking roles at Bank of New York Mellon and Bank of America for more than 20 years.

The appointment of Mertz succeeds the appointment of Brian Heilman as a senior portfolio manager three months ago.

It was in October 2011 that Northern Trust had opened the Washington office in order to expand its wealth management business.

As of June 2012, Northern Trust has US$175.9 billion in AUM and more than 70 offices across the US and abroad.
