Ariel Investments, a US-based funds management firm, has made its offshore foray by opening its first offshore office in Sydney.

Referring to the new Sydney office, Ariel chief investment officer, international and global equities Rupal Bhansali said: "Pension and super funds across the Asia-Pacific region are looking for capital appreciation driven by a proven investment process and a cohesive team.

"This is exactly what we bring to the table. From our negative screening process to our 360-degree scenario analysis, along with our rigorous attention to risk management, we have developed a robust and repeatable investment process to meet client objectives."

As part of the expansion, the company has recruited Australian institutional investment veteran Ian Webber as senior vice president, head of Asia Pacific.

Webber previously held the role of country head and director of sales, Asia Pacific at Artio Global Investors.
