American asset manager Northern Trust has expanded its Middle East and Africa (MEA) senior management team in Saudi Arabia with the appointments of Areej Al-Mokbel and Effat Badeeb.

The pair will report to Northern Trust MEA head Michael Slater.

Slater noted: “Their appointment supports our clients’ evolving requirements for asset servicing and asset management solutions that help them meet the challenges and capitalise on the opportunities of future technological and industry change.”

Al-Mokbel 

Al-Mokbel will serve as the COO of MEA. In this role, she will manage the firm’s operations in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia as well as Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Her remit includes the strategic management of the firm’s administrative and operational capabilities as it supports the needs of MEA clients.

Al-Mokbel has been working for over two decades in the financial services space.

She has previously held leadership roles at HSBC Saudi Arabia and technology management roles at SABB that previously traded as Saudi British Bank.

Badeeb 

Badeeb will serve as the deputy country manager at The Northern Trust Company of Saudi Arabia.

In the new role, she will be tasked with business management, talent development and exercising financial and regulatory management of business in Saudi Arabia.

Moreover, she will be in charge of strategic initiatives aimed at improving relationships with regulators and key stakeholders.

She will also support the alignment of the firm with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 strategic framework to drive economic development.

Badeeb previously was the chief compliance officer for the Middle East at Northern Trust.

Her 14-year financial career also includes stints at HSBC Saudi Arabia and BNP Paribas Investment Company.

Northern Trust has been catering to Middle East clients since 1987.

The firm has a workforce of 29 people in Abu Dhabi and Riyadh, growing its employee headcount by more than two-fold over three years.

Its clientele in the region includes sovereign wealth funds, central banks, inter-governmental/governmental organisations, asset managers as well as family offices.

In April this year, Northern Trust appointed Alison Pain as the chief technology officer for EMEA.
