C. Hoare & Co launches sustainable bank card

By Patrick Brusnahan

C. Hoare & amp; Co has announced a sustainable, non-toxic, bioplastic bank card.

The UK’s oldest privately-owned bank will offer the card to all customers and will be significantly more sustainable than traditional bank cards.

While cards are usually made from petroleum-based products or a mix of plastics, the new cards will be produced with only polylactic acid (PLA) in the main body of the card.

C. Hoare & Co partnered with Giesecke+Devrient to produce the sustainable cards. At polymer-production level, emissions are approximately 73% lower, and emissions, when the cards are industrially incinerated are approximately 68% lower.

Furthermore, the bank gives around 12% of the bank’s annual charitable giving via The Golden Bottle Trust is donated to environmental causes. This also includes impact funds designed to create systemic change.

Venetia Hoare, partner, said: “Hoare’s Bank is delighted to introduce these cards, which make use of a new technology. The initiative forms part of the bank’s wider ambition to drive sustainability, supporting the efforts of many of our customers.”

The bank recently hired Hayley Layt as a relationship manager as part of its expansion in Cambridge.

Layt will work in the Cambridge office, continuing the firm’s expansion in the region.

The appointment follows the opening of the C. Hoare & Co’s Cambridge office in March 2019, the bank’s first outside of London.

This followed Diana Brightmore-Armour as an addition to its board.

Brightmore-Armour has a wealth of experience in the field. A FTSE 100 board member, she was a director of The Berkeley Group Holdings.

Prior to this role, she was chief executive to the European branches of Australia and New Zealand Bank (ANZ).
