UBS Asset Management (UBS AM) has appointed Michael Baldinger to the newly created role of head of sustainable and impact investing.

Based in New York, Baldinger will be responsible to set up a sustainable and impact investing business across asset classes. He will report to UBS AM head of Equities, Multi Asset and O’Connor Dawn Fitzpatrick.

"ESG and impact focused investing is good for society and can drive superior investment returns. There is an inherent link between the forward and creative thinking of companies who rate highly in these areas and a corporation’s ability to produce sustainable growth," Fitzpatrick said.

At the same time, Baldinger will also join as a member of the UBS and Society Operating Committee and will chair the Asset Management Environmental, Social and Governance Committee.

UBS & Society global head Caroline Anstey said: "We want to mainstream sustainable and impact investing in response to increased demand from our clients and from the community. This requires us to develop financial innovations for our clients. With Michael’s appointment, we have hired a key talent to bring our commitment to sustainable investing to a new level."

Baldinger most recently served at RobescoSAM, an international investment firm focused on sustainability investments. He had a seven-year spell at RobescoSAM and served as the firm’s CEO from 201 to 2016.
