American investment management firm Northern Trust has named Keishi Yamamoto as the president and representative director of its asset management division in Japan, replacing Hidehiro Nakayama who will retire later this year.

Yamamoto will be based in Japan and will report to Northern Trust Asset Management managing director of Asia-Pacific, John McCareins.

In the new role, he will be responsible for sales, product development, client service and operational teams in Tokyo.

Yamamoto has more than two decades of experience in investment management. Previously he served Wellington Management Japan as head of pensions for 10 years. Prior to that, he worked as CEO at Empower Investment and as operating officer at Bridge Capital securities.

Commenting on the appointment, McCareins said: “His valuable experience in the Japanese market combined with a deep understanding of our clients’ needs will continue to position us for growth in this region.”
