American investment management firm Northern Trust has announced plans to add up to 400 new jobs in the Irish city of Limerick over the next five years.

The latest move marks the fourth time the company has bolstered its Limerick presence.

Northern Trust country head of Ireland Clive Bellows said: “We have seen growth in the scale and operation of our Irish business over the years and the continued expansion of our office in Limerick reflect this.”

The firm has been operating in Ireland since 1989 and set up an office in Dublin in 2000.

In 2007, the firm launched its first office in Limerick with a workforce of 19. The firm currently has two branches in the region, located at Hamilton House and City East Plaza, which together has 1000 employees.

Northern Trust general manager for Limerick office Catherine Duffy stated: “Limerick is a fund administration centre of excellence for Northern Trust supporting organisations such as leading alternative, multi-manager and traditional investment managers, pension funds, multi-nationals, insurance companies and not-for-profit organisations, worldwide.
