Macquarie Securities, the institutional equities arm of Macquarie Group, has hired Christine Farkas as new head of US equity research, replacing Andrew Root.

Farkas, who will take over her new role on 11 January 2016, will be based in New York.

Prior to joining Macquarie she worked with BMO Capital Markets as US Equity Research head since September 2012.

Earlier, Farkas served as a senior and highly ranked equity analyst at Bank of America Merrill Lynch for more than 17 years and also covered numerous sectors in consumer, energy technology and industrial areas.

Macquarie managing director and head of US equities Andrew Root said: "Her appointment furthers our commitment to delivering differentiated, globally relevant content to US buy-side institutions."
