Lombard International, a provider of wealth structuring solutions, has appointed Axel Horger as its new CEO for Europe.

Horger is replacing interim CEO John Van Der Wielen, who will remain a non-executive director of the company.

Horger will report to Lombard International’s executive chairman John Hillman. Based in Luxembourg, he will be in charge for continuing the progress of the transatlantic business model to better serve the increasingly complex needs of HNWIs and their families.

Prior to joining Lombard, Horger worked as CEO at UBS Deutschland, where he led the re-engineering of the UBS governance model in Germany, increased operational and front-line efficiency across all business lines, introduced new technology and steered IT and operational projects.

Prior to that, he worked as head of institutional sales for Goldman Sachs Asset Management in EMEA, managing client acquisition activities and defining market and product strategy across the region.

Hillman said: "His experience in managing and developing successful financial services brands will prove invaluable as we seek to build out our franchise across Europe and towards our stated strategy of developing an industry leading and truly global wealth planning solutions business."
