JP Morgan Asset Management (JPMAM) has named Karen Ward as the new chief market strategist for Europe and the UK, replacing Stephanie Flanders who departed in June 2017 to join Bloomberg Economics.

Based in London, Ward will lead the market insights team across Europe. She will assume the new responsibility later in 2017 following the Autumn Budget and will report to the firm’s chief global strategist, David Kelly.

Ward chairs the council of economic advisers for the Chancellor of the Exchequer, where she offers advice on various macroeconomic issues such as fiscal strategy and Brexit.

Previously, she served as chief European economist at HSBC Global Banking & Markets and economic analyst at the Bank of England.

“Karen brings a wealth of both private and public sector experience to her new role. Her work for the Bank of England and the Treasury has provided her with deep insights into the challenges of both Brexit and monetary policy normalisation in Britain while her expertise in leading HSBC’s European economics team should prove invaluable to our clients in assessing prospects for European financial markets and investment opportunities,” Kelly stated.
