HSBC has named Sharon Oh as the COO of HSBC private banking in Asia-Pacific, replacing Gaurav Rao.

Rao has now moved to London to assume a new position at HSBC private banking,

Oh is now in charge of the regional COO teams.

She has been tasked with spearheading the effort to offer a new core banking platform and improve the digital service of the bank.

In the new role, she will report to HSBC private banking global COO Anil Venuturupalli and HSBC private banking regional head of Asia-Pacific Siew Meng Tan.

“Oh will help us to accelerate the delivery of our key initiatives and harness the benefits of becoming part of WPB,” Tan noted.

WPB was formed following the consolidation of HSBC’s retail banking, wealth management, and global private banking units. The combined entity has $1.4trn in assets.

Oh most recently worked at JPMorgan. She held the role of chief of staff in the global institutional client segment at the firm.

She also worked as the COO of J.P. Morgan Private Bank in Asia-Pacific as well as the COO for North Asia at Credit Suisse.

HSBC recently also appointed Greg Hingston as the regional head for Asia-Pacific of its recently introduced WPB unit.

It also appointed Mark Yunfeng Wang as the president and CEO of its China operations.
