HSBC has appointed Desmond Kuang as new chief investment officer (CIO), Asia, for HSBC Private Bank and Premier Wealth.
In the new position, Kuang will lead the development of regional investment strategies and themes across all asset classes for private banking and premier clients in Asia, excluding Hong Kong, the banking giant said in a statement.

Kuang is a member of HSBC’s Global Investment Committee, which reviews and sets asset allocation strategies for clients.
Kuang has 20 years of banking experience, with leadership roles across asset management and investment research.
He is currently CIO, China, and interim head of wealth and premier solutions, China.
HSBC said he will continue in both roles until successors are appointed.
Based in Singapore, Kuang will report to Willem Sels, global CIO, HSBC Private Bank and Premier Wealth, and to Ishan Sarkar, head of wealth and premier solutions, Singapore.

The appointment takes effect on 6 July 2026.
