Swiss money manager GAM has appointed Rachel Wheeler as its new group general counsel.

Wheeler will assume the new responsibility later in 2018 and will also join the group management board. The appointment is subject to regulatory nod.

Wheeler most recently served as the general counsel at Aviva Investors, a position she held since 2014.

She previously also served in the legal teams of USS Investment Management, Bank of New York Mellon, Gartmore Investment Management and Merrill Lynch Investment Management.

Early in her career, she worked as a solicitor in corporate and financial services law at Simmons & Simmons.

GAM group CEO Alexander Friedman said: “Rachel is a leading asset management general counsel and brings to GAM over 20 years of relevant experience. I greatly look forward to welcoming her to the team.”
