Swiss private bank EFG International has undergone a change as bankers from Barclays, Vontobel, and Julius Baer join to bolster its management team.

The move includes the appointment of Richard Thomas as the new head of the UK region and CEO of EFG Private Bank, London, replacing Anthony Cooke-Yarborough who will now become private banking chairman.

Thomas will assume the new role on 2 January 2019, pending regulatory approval, and will also join the bank’s global business committee.

He currently serves as the COO of savings, wealth and investments at Barclays UK. In his 10-year stint at Barclays, he has held various roles including COO of UK Private Bank, managing director and team leader for UK.

Client relations

Meanwhile, Cooke-Yarborough will now spearhead key client initiatives and support commercial activities to drive the business’ growth. He will also serve as a member of the global business committee and will continue to serve as vice chairman on the company’s board.

Both Thomas and Cooke-Yarborough will report to EFG International CEO Giorgio Pradelli.

New head of HR

In addition, Daniel Lüscher has been appointed as the global head of human resources, replacing Giovanni Weber who will now retire.

Lüscher will take up the new responsibility on 1 November 2018 and report to Pradelli.

Lüscher most recently was the group head of human resources at Bank Vontobel. He previously also served at Zurich Insurance Group, and Deutsche Post World Net.

Mauro Palombo has been appointed as global head of credit solutions and global head of strategic client management.

Palombo will join EFG on 1 November 2018 from Julius Baer, where he held various senior roles including head of credit private banking and group chief credit officer.

In the new role, Palombo will report to Pradelli and head of investment solutions and deputy CEO Renato Cohn.

Sales head

The bank also appointed Donald Klotter as the new global head of institutional sales, with responsibility for managing global business development initiatives and sales teams based in Geneva, Hong Kong, London, Miami, Singapore and Zurich.

Klotter joined EFG in 2016 and has previously worked as a client portfolio manager in asset management.

His financial industry career of over 25 years also includes stints at Mazama Capital Management, State Street, and U.S. Bancorp.

Head of private banking Zurich

Moreover, EFG also named Roland Kempf as its new head of private banking for Zurich.

Kempf will join EFG on 15 October 2018 from Privatbank IHAG, where he served as the head of private banking and external asset managers. He previously also worked at Clariden Leu.

In the new role, he will report to the head of Switzerland and Italy region Franco Polloni and will also join the regional management committee.
