Citi Ventures has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Singapore Management University (SMU) to offer courses in evolving fintech technology.

The partnership will enable the SMU students to avail the Citi University Partnerships in Innovation & Discovery (CUPID) programme.

The CUPID programme was originally launched in January last year in the US by Citi Ventures and the Citi Human Resources.

The programme aims to develop new talent to support innovation and development of financial services solutions within the bank.

Till date, more than 1,200 students from 20 universities in the US, Europe and Canada have opted for the course.

At SMU, the CUPID programme will commence in January next year. The 15-week course will allow the students to work on a variety of financial technology-related projects.

It may include the development of new product ideas and customer experience solutions. Additionally, the programme may enable the development of functional prototypes utilising blockchain, machine learning and artificial intelligence.

SMU president professor Lily Kong said: “Our students will be able work in teams to apply their classroom knowledge to real-world challenges faced by financial institutions.

“These include opportunities to work on improving customer onboarding through digital channels, reducing transaction cycle times and error rates, and increasing product marketing yields through real-time customer analytics. Students will be able to gain valuable experience and a better understanding of the demands and opportunities in the fintech industry.”

This is the second collaboration between SMU and Citi Ventures.

In 2012, they launched a financial literacy programme for young adults in collaboration with Citi Foundation.
