Barclays Bank India has secured more than Rs15bn ($168.3m) in fresh funding from its head office to finance the expansion of its local investment bank and private bank divisions.
The deployment lifts the institution’s total invested capital in the jurisdiction, defined as capital and reserves to approximately Rs166bn.

This transaction represents the parent group’s third balance-sheet allocation to India across a five-year period.
It succeeds previous capital transfers exceeding Rs30bn in 2021 and more than Rs23bn completed in March 2025.
Barclays Asia Pacific and India CEO Jaideep Khanna said “India is central to Barclays’ growth strategy in Asia Pacific. This investment reflects a deliberate long-term allocation of capital to a market where we see sustained opportunity.
“It strengthens our balance sheet and increases our capacity to support clients as they scale domestically, expand internationally and access global capital. With 37 years in India, we remain committed to building a business of lasting scale and relevance.”
Barclays Bank PLC CEO and Asia Pacific investment banking vice chairman Pramod Kumar added: “India is seeing increasing participation from domestic and international investors, deeper capital markets and sustained demand for sophisticated financing and risk management solutions.
“This investment enhances our ability to deploy capital efficiently, deepen client relationships and capture opportunities across our businesses.”
Alongside this capital expansion, the lender is reportedly preparing to re-enter India’s equity capital market segment following an absence of nearly a decade.
Addressing the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in New Delhi last month, Pramod Kumar noted that adding the capability would re-establish a critical component within the firm’s broader wholesale banking division.
“That’s one important product missing in our otherwise very strong wholesale banking offering,” Kumar said.
