AXA Investment Managers (IM) has named Marcello Arona as the CEO of AXA IM UK and AXA IM GS. The appointment awaits the approval of the FCA.

Marcello replaces Philippe d’Orgeval who departed from AXA IM earlier this month.

Marcello will operate out of London and manage the operations of both the entities. He will report to the company’s executive chairman Marco Morelli and global COO Godefroy de Colombe.

Since 2005, Marcello has been a part of AXA IM.  He worked as the as the COO of AXA IM Italy before leading AXA IM Americas in 2017.  He has also held US CFO responsibilities since 2013.

Marcello also had stints at HSBC and PWC.

Godefroy de Colombe said: “Marcello’s knowledge of the company and his previous experience as COO, CFO and Head of AXA IM Americas will be invaluable to ensure our second most important office in size continues to progress, from a business and employee engagement perspective.”

The company said that John Stainsby will head AXA IM UK and AXA IM GS on an acting basis until Marcello assumes his new role in April next year.

Stainsby is also head of Core Client Group UK.

In April this year, AXA IM appointed Mark Hargraves as the global head of Framlington Equities, replacing Matthew Lovatt.

In February, the company launched a new strategy, which adds to its thematic fund suite and offers exposure to companies in China.

Last year, AXA IM CEO Andrea Rossi resigned after being at the helm of the business for six years.
