Hofer, who will be based in Geneva, will have a dual reporting line into Nomkhita Nqweni, market manager, Africa, and Patrick Ramsey, head of Barclays Wealth, Switzerland.
In his new role, he will work closely with the local sales managers and front office heads in Geneva, London and Dubai. He will also assume the day-to-day management of the IPB Africa Bankers and drive the delivery of Barclays Wealth growth agenda and targets for Africa offshore, the bank said.

Hofer has extensive experience in wealth management having spent 23 years at UBS fulfilling various functions, including market head for Africa and Turkey.
Ramsey said "With a strong track record and experience in leading International banker teams, Philippe makes a significant addition to the IPB team.
