UBS has named Desmond Kuek as the new divisional vice-chairman for global wealth management.

Kuek will assume the new responsibility on 18th of this month. He will be based in Singapore.

His experience is said to be integral in deepening the bank’s existing client relationships and building new ones, as well as strengthening Asia Pacific operations.

He will report to head of ultra-high net worth Joe Stadler and Asia Pacific president Edmund Koh.

Kuek formerly served as the CEO of Singapore’s public transport operator SMRT.

He held this role he held for six years, quitting last April.

During his stint at SMRT, Kuek oversaw its de-listing from the Singapore stock exchange in 2016 following its buyout by Temasek.

Previously, he served as chief of army and chief of defence force at the Singapore Armed Forces, and permanent secretary in Singapore’s ministry of environment and water resources.

Additionally, he founded consultancy firm Genium & Co.
