Janney Montgomery Scott, a US-based wealth management, financial services and capital markets firm, has hired Martin Schamis as new head of wealth planning within its wealth management division.

In his new role, Schamis will be responsible for the strategic direction of the Planning Solutions Group that supports Janney’s 740 Financial Advisors who advise the firm’s retail client base.

In addition, Schamis will oversee a team to deliver a platform of advice-based financial strategies using the latest in planning solutions, research into client needs and experience, and technology.

Before joining Janney Montgomery, Schamis worked with The Vanguard Group as senior manager of financial planning and advice services. He helped Vanguard to launch several financial planning initiatives including redesigning the firm’s financial planning offering as well as developing a solution connecting clients with Vanguard’s CFP Professionals for situational advice.

Earlier to this, he worked as a financial advisor for Morgan Stanley.
