Goldman Sachs has appointed Farshid Asl and Matt Weir as co-heads of its Investment Strategy Group (ISG), according to an internal memo seen by Private Banker International.
They will succeed Sharmin Mossavar-Rahmani.

Within Goldman Sachs Wealth Management, the Investment Strategy Group serves as the chief investment office, guiding asset allocation and portfolio strategy for private clients around the world.
Asl currently leads Strategic and Quantitative Asset Allocation globally within the group, while Weir is a senior member of ISG with a principal focus on equity markets.
The memo said the pair bring “complementary expertise, deep market experience, and proven leadership” to their new roles.
It also said they had played “central roles” in the development of ISG’s investment framework, its strategic and tactical investment approach, and its client solutions work over many years.
“Together, Farshid and Matt will build upon ISG’s premier reputation, leading its global team in shaping asset allocation for our clients, investment perspectives, market insights, and state of the art portfolio management for our clients worldwide.”
Asl will remain based in New York, while Weir will continue to work from San Francisco.
Asl joined Goldman Sachs in 2006. He became managing director in 2011 and was named partner in 2018.
Weir joined the firm in 2003. He was appointed managing director in 2012.
Mossavar-Rahmani is set to retire later this year after more than three decades at Goldman Sachs.
She joined the firm as a partner in 1993 after working at Fidelity Management Trust Company. There, she was chief investment officer for all separate and co-mingled fixed income accounts.
At Goldman Sachs, she later served as chief investment officer for fixed income in the Asset Management Division.
