The firms are intended to give IG clients and retail investors in Canada access to diversified strategies spanning equities, fixed income and alternative assets, using approaches previously used by institutional investors.

Goldman Sachs Asset Management global head and multi-asset solutions co-chief investment officer and portfolio manager Alexandra Wilson-Elizondo said: “We believe a modern approach to asset allocation, dynamic investment strategies, robust risk management processes and well-diversified portfolios help clients achieve their objectives across market environments.

“We are excited to partner with IG to bring the capabilities of our Multi-Asset Solutions team to IG’s clients across Canada.”

As part of the move, Goldman Sachs Asset Management’s multi-asset solutions team will take on portfolio management duties for the IG strategic wealth portfolios.

The range consists of five portfolios from the line-up previously called the IG Core Portfolios.

The portfolios are structured to support clients and retail investors through different market conditions and remain focused on long-term growth.

They will continue to follow a globally diversified investment approach.

Goldman Sachs Asset Management will use its open architecture platform and experience in multi-manager strategies to add selected Goldman Sachs strategies to the portfolios alongside the existing holdings.

The portfolios covered are IG Strategic Wealth Portfolio – Income Focus, IG Strategic Wealth Portfolio – Income Balanced, IG Strategic Wealth Portfolio – Balanced, IG Strategic Wealth Portfolio – Balanced Growth and IG Strategic Wealth Portfolio – Growth.

IG Wealth Management investment solutions head Florence Narine said: “This partnership strengthens the investment foundation of the IG Strategic Wealth Portfolios by incorporating the world-class institutional investment capabilities of Goldman Sachs Asset Management, including adaptive active management, the breadth and expertise of their global resources and a disciplined approach to risk management.”

Separately, last month, Goldman Sachs Group agreed to acquire LCN Capital Partners, a real estate investment manager, in a deal worth up to $410m.
