It underlined Welch’s years of experience working with boards and leadership teams at regulated financial services firms, including in growth, operational change and strategic transformation.

Gregor Stewart, group chair since 2024, will stay on the group board and continue as chair of the risk committee.

He will also become senior independent director.

Welch said: “FNZ has established itself as a global leader in wealth management technology with an exceptional platform and significant opportunities ahead. I look forward to working with the Board, Blythe and her wider leadership team, to support the delivery of the Group’s strategy and pursue its long-term growth ambitions.”

FNZ Group CEO Blythe Masters said: “I am delighted to welcome Stephen as Chair of the FNZ Group Board. Stephen brings significant experience working with the boards and leadership teams of regulated, global financial services businesses. His track record of driving transformation and operational excellence will be highly valuable as FNZ continues to execute its strategy. I look forward to working closely with him.”

“On behalf of the Company, I would like to thank Gregor for his leadership as Chair, and I’m pleased that FNZ will continue to benefit from his experience, insight and counsel in his new role.”

Separately, earlier this month, Advent and an investor group that includes HarbourVest Partners agreed to buy FNZ Bank from FNZ.

Once the transaction is completed, the new owners plan to invest in the bank’s technology and operating functions and develop its products and services for partners.
