Sanlam Private Wealth has appointed Alex Morley as its new chief executive replacing Nigel Speirs.

However, Speirs will continue in his role as head of distribution for Sanlam UK, a role which he has held since 2009, while Morley will continue to oversee English Mutual.

Morley was appointed to the board of Sanlam Private Wealth after the firm acquired English Mutual in 2012.

Speirs joined the firm in 2004 after his advice firm Buckles was acquired by Sanlam and rebranded Salam Private Wealth.

Lukas Van der Walt, CEO of Sanlam UK, said that the restructure will allow the firm to build close relationship with English Mutual and expand its presence throughout the South and Midlands.

He added that the firm will consolidate further in 2014 and is planning to make further acquisitions this year, particularly targeting retiring IFAs.
