PIMCO has announced four additional Deputy Chief Investment Officers, a senior Generalist Portfolio Manager hire and two departures.

Portfolio Management leadership appointments:

Mark Kiesel, Deputy Chief Investment Officer: Mr. Kiesel is a Managing Director in the Newport Beach officer, a Generalist Portfolio Manager and Global Head of the Corporate Bond Portfolio Management Group. Morningstar named him 2012 Fixed-Income Fund Manager of the Year (US). He joined PIMCO in 1996.

Virginie Maisonneuve, Deputy Chief Investment Officer: Ms. Maisonneuve is a Managing Director in the London Office and Global Head of Equities. She joined PIMCO in 2014.

Scott Mather, Deputy Chief Investment Officer: Mr. Mather is a Managing Director in the Newport Beach office and Head of Global Portfolio Management. He joined PIMCO in 1998.

Mihir Worah, Deputy Chief Investment Officer: Mr. Worah is a Managing Director in the Newport Beach office and head of the Real Return Portfolio Management team. He joined PIMCO in 2001.

They join Dan Ivascyn (Managing Director in the Newport Beach office and Morningstar 2013 Fixed-Income Fund Manager of the Year (US)) and Andrew Balls (Managing Director in the London office and Head of European Portfolio Management) as PIMCO’s Deputy Chief Investment Officers, reporting to Founder and Chief Investment Officer Bill Gross.

Senior Portfolio Management hire:
In addition to these senior appointments, Sudi Mariappa will re-join PIMCO as a Managing Director and Generalist Portfolio Manager, based in the Newport Beach office. Mr. Mariappa will return to PIMCO from GLG where he has served since 2012 co-managing that firm’s absolute return fixed income offering. He was previously at PIMCO from 2000-2011 as a Managing Director, Portfolio Manager and Senior Advisor.

Departures:
Charles Lahr, a Managing Director and Equities Portfolio Manager, has decided to leave the firm pursue other opportunities, including spending more time with his family. Marc Seidner, a Managing Director and Portfolio Manager, has decided to return to Boston to take a role outside of PIMCO. They both joined the firm in 2009.

Professional biographies (in alphabetical order):

Andrew Balls: Mr. Balls is a Managing Director in the London office, Deputy Chief Investment Officer, a member of the Investment Committee and head of European portfolio management. He leads PIMCO’s European investment team (which is based in London and Munich) and manages a range of global and European portfolios, including PIMCO’s Global Advantage strategy, combining developed and emerging fixed income markets.

Mr. Balls was previously a Portfolio Manager in Newport Beach and the firm’s global strategist. Prior to joining PIMCO in 2006, he spent eight years at the Financial Times as an economics correspondent and columnist in London, New York and Washington, DC. He has 15 years of investment experience and holds a bachelor’s degree from Oxford and a master’s degree from Harvard University. He was a lecturer in economics at Keble College, Oxford.

Daniel Ivascyn: Mr. Ivascyn is a Managing Director in the Newport Beach office, Deputy Chief Investment Officer, Head of the Mortgage Credit Portfolio Management team and a lead portfolio manager for PIMCO’s credit hedge fund and mortgage opportunistic strategies. He also oversees the firm’s Income strategies. Mr. Ivascyn is a member of PIMCO’s Executive Committee and has also periodically served as a member of the Investment Committee.

Morningstar named him Fixed Income Fund Manager of the Year in 2013. Prior to joining PIMCO in 1998, he worked at Bear Stearns in the asset-backed securities group, as well as T. Rowe Price and Fidelity Investments. He has 22 years of investment experience and holds an MBA in analytic finance from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Occidental College.

Mark Kiesel: Mr. Kiesel is a Managing Director in the Newport Beach office, Deputy Chief Investment Officer, generalist portfolio manager, global head of the corporate bond portfolio management group and a senior member of the investment strategy and portfolio management group. Morningstar named him Fixed Income Fund Manager of the Year in 2012 and a finalist in 2010.

He has written extensively on the topic of global credit markets, founded the firm’s Global Credit Perspectives publication and regularly appears in the financial media. He joined PIMCO in 1996 and previously served as PIMCO’s head of equity derivatives and as a senior credit analyst. He has 21 years of investment experience and holds an MBA from the University of Chicago’s Graduate School of Business. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan.

Virginie Maisonneuve: Ms. Maisonneuve is a Managing Director in the London office, Deputy Chief Investment Officer and Global Head of Equities Portfolio Management. She has more than 25-years of equity investing experience and most recently was Head of Global and International Equities with Schroders Plc, where she spent 9 years in their London office as an equity portfolio manager and team leader. She also served as a Director of Schroder Investment Management North America Inc.

Previously, she spent 6-years at Clay Finlay in New York City as Co-Chief Investment Officer, Director and a member of the Executive Committee and Investment Policy Committee. Earlier in her career she was an equity portfolio manager with a focus on Asian portfolios with State Street Research and Management. She also held equity portfolio management roles with Batterymarch Financial Management and Martin Currie, in Scotland.

Ms. Maisonneuve began her career working with the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, China. She earned a MA in Mandarin Chinese from Dauphine University in Paris, an MBA from Ecole Superieure Libre des Sciences Commerciales Appliquées in Paris, and a BA in Political Economics from People’s University in Beijing, China. Ms. Maisonneuve is a CFA charterholder.

Sudi Mariappa: Mr. Mariappa will become a Managing Director and Generalist Portfolio Manager in the Newport Beach office. Previously he was with GLG in their London office, beginning in September 2012 where he developed and managed GLG’s absolute return fixed income offering. Prior to GLG, Mr. Mariappa was at PIMCO from 2000-2011 as a Managing Director, Portfolio Manager and Senior Advisor. Earlier in his career he was a Managing Director at Merrill Lynch, Tokyo.

He also worked for Sumitomo Finance International and Long Term Capital Management in San Francisco and Salomon Brothers in Tokyo. Mr. Mariappa holds a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering and an MBA from Cornell University.

Scott Mather: Mr. Mather is a Managing Director in the Newport Beach office, Deputy Chief Investment Officer, and Head of Global Portfolio Management. Previously, he led portfolio management in Europe, managed euro and pan-European portfolios and worked closely with many Allianz-related companies. He also served as a managing director of Allianz Global Investors KAG.

He was a finalist for Morningstar Fixed Income Manager of the Year (US) in 2011. Prior to these roles, Mr. Mather co-headed PIMCO’s mortgage- and asset-backed securities team. Prior to joining PIMCO in 1998, he was a fixed income trader specializing in mortgage-backed securities at Goldman Sachs in New York. He has 19 years of investment experience and holds a master’s degree in engineering, as well as undergraduate degrees, from the University of Pennsylvania.

Mihir Worah: Mr. Worah is a Managing Director in the Newport Beach office, Deputy Chief Investment Officer, Portfolio Manager, and Head of the Real Return Portfolio Management team. He was previously a member of the analytics team and worked on real and nominal term structure modeling and options pricing.

Prior to joining PIMCO in 2001, he was a postdoctoral research associate at the University of California, Berkeley, and the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, where he built models to explain the difference between matter and anti-matter. In 2012 he co-authored "Intelligent Commodity Indexing," published by McGraw-Hill. He has 12 years of investment experience and holds a Ph.D. in theoretical physics from the University of Chicago.
