Northern Trust has expanded its presence in the Asia-Pacific region by establishing a new representative office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The new office will support current institutional clients and develop Northern Trust’s businesses in Malaysia and the region.

According to Northern Trust, the new office will be managed by its chief representative officer Ariani Rustam.

In her new role, Rustam will be responsible for coordinating relationship building in key financial segments such as sovereign entities, government agencies, pension funds and insurance funds.

Rustam joins Northern Trust after working 12 years at the Bank Negara Malaysia, where she has been a senior executive in risk management, operations, and quantitative analytics, while for the last five years she served as a manager of the external fund management division.

Teresa Parker, head of the Asia-Pacific region for Northern Trust, said: "Rustam’s experience in Malaysia’s financial system and her expertise in global investing and operations will be valuable to Northern Trust and our clients as we collaborate to further develop Malaysia as a financial hub.
