ING Investment Management (ING IM) has appointed the convertible bond team from Avoca Convertible Bond Partners in a move to expand its convertible bond investment capabilities.

Tarek Saber and Jasper van Ingen have joined ING Investment Management as investment team manager convertible bonds and as senior portfolio manager convertible bonds respectively at the end of last month.

The duo previously managed the Avoca Convertible Select Global Fund, which was launched in April 2012.

Saber joined Avoca in 2011 to lead the convertible bond business. Prior to this, he worked at ABP/APG, where he set up and managed the successful corporate opportunity strategy fund (COS fund).

He previously worked as global head of convertible bonds at HSBC Investment Bank and as head of European convertible bonds and global head of global depository receipts trading at Schroder Securities.

Van Ingen has previously held roles at APG in Amsterdam and New York.

Hans Stoter, CIO of ING Investment Management, said: "In the current investment environment we expect investors to focus on yield, lower volatility and limited draw down risk. Convertible bonds fit very well within this environment and provide an excellent complementary strategy to our product suite."
