The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has appointed Megan Butler as the permanent director of supervision – investment, wholesale and specialists (SIWS).

Butler was appointed as temporary head of supervision at the FCA in 2015. She has been holding the role on secondment from the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA), where she served as executive director of international banks directorate.

Prior to joining PRA, she served at Financial Services Authority (FSA), which she joined in 2000.

She worked as head of enforcement law and policy at the FSA as well as chaired the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) Standing Committee on Cross Border Cooperation and Enforcement from 2004 to 2008.

In April 2013, Butler joined the Bank of England from the FSA.

Before her stint at FSA, she worked at the London Stock Exchange in several legal and non-legal roles, including head of capital markets.
