Evercore, an investment banking advisory firm, has appointed John Weinberg as chairman of the board and executive chairman.

Weinberg will join the senior management team that now includes current executive chairman Roger Altman, who will become founder and senior chairman, and Ralph Schlosstein, president and CEO.

Prior to joining Evercore, Weinberg served as vice chairman of Goldman Sachs Group from June 2006 to October 2015, and as co-head of global investment banking from 2002 to 2014.

Weinberg also worked as co-head of investment banking in the Americas, responsible to provide strategic and financial advice to Ford, General Electric, and Boeing, and advised on the IPOs of Visa and Under Armour.

Weinberg joined Goldman Sachs in 1983 and was promoted to Partner in 1992.
