Emerging markets investing pioneer Mark Mobius is set to retire from Franklin Templeton Investments at the end of this month after a spell of over 30 years at the firm.

Mobius joined Franklin Templeton in 1987 as president of the Templeton Emerging Markets Fund. From 1987 to 2016, he was responsible for managing Templeton’s emerging markets team.

He also served as executive chairman of the Templeton Emerging Markets Group (TEMG). However, in early 2016, Mobius handed over TEMG’s management to Stephen Dover, who was appointed as CIO of TEMG. Around the same period, Mobius also transitioned management of the funds to other senior members of TEMG.

Overall, Mobius worked for over four decades in emerging markets worldwide.

Franklin Templeton Investments chairman and CEO Greg Johnson said: “There is no single individual who is more synonymous with emerging markets investing than Mark Mobius.

“Mark has been an investor through historically transformational times in emerging markets and later frontier markets. Over the last three decades, Mark has built a team of talented research analysts and portfolio managers around the world, and has generously shared his experiences with an audience that spans the globe,” Johnson added.
