The wealth gap between male and female investors has widened considerably in the past year according to Duncan Lawrie’s latest Gender Wealth Gap Index 2014.

On average, UK men hold £7,732 in bank accounts, pensions, ISAs, investments and savings compared to only £2,000 for women. This is a considerable difference considering last year’s index saw men holding £6000 and women holding £3000.

Moreover, the index, which received responses from nearly 2,400 adults, found that only 19% of women, compared to 29% of men, have an investment portfolio. Compared to 18% and 27% respectively last year, it seems that investor numbers are rising incrementally, but with male investors outpacing their female counterparts.

Jane Parry, marketing director of Duncan Lawrie, said: "The results from the research clearly show there is still gender wealth disparity in the UK and it seems to be growing. Where gender is concerned, financial matters are worryingly out of kilter with other issues, such as equality in the workplace."
