Swiss banking giant Credit Suisse has appointed Tsuneaki Hirao as the managing director and head of private banking in Japan.
Hirao will be based in Tokyo, reporting functionally to head of developed and emerging Asia of private banking Asia Pacific Alex Wade, and locally to Japan CEO Martin Keeble.
“With the largest high-net-worth wealth pool in Asia, Japan is one of our priority markets in the region and a particularly important domestic market for our Private Banking business. We are confident that under Hirao-san's leadership, we will continue to further accelerate the growth of our franchise," Keeble said.
Hirao joins Credit Suisse from UBS, where he spent more than 10 years most recently as head of ultra-high-net-worth Japan.
Prior to UBS, Hirao worked at Citi Private Bank, most recently as managing director, market head Tokyo branch.
Commenting on Hirao’s new role, Wade said: "He will continue to drive collaboration across businesses, utilizing the bank's integrated capabilities to generate new clients, assets and transactions, as Credit Suisse continues to position itself as the Trusted Entrepreneur's Bank for our clients."
