Jupiter Asset Management has appointed Ash Ray as head of governance research to make corporate governance an essential part of investment process in the company.

In this newly-created post, Ray will report directly report to Stephen Pearson, chief investment officer and chairman of Jupiter’s stewardship committee.

Prior to the new role, Ray worked in the group’s governance team for 10 years.

He will manage a team of governance analysts offering research and guidance on regulatory requirements and best practice, and concentrating on Jupiter’s engagement priorities for the fund management teams.

Additionally, Ray will be responsible for broadening the team’s work across all regions and asset classes, including Japan, India and fixed income.

Pearson said: “We are proud of our standing as a Tier 1 signatory to the UK Stewardship Code. We consider good governance to be an essential component of good investment outcomes for our clients and this is why our fund managers are so directly involved in the process.
