Citi Markets has appointed ex-Goldman Sachs executive Christopher Chan as the head of markets solutions for financial institutions, Asia South and Asia North.

Chan is set to begin his role in July this year and will operate out of Singapore.

He will manage the firm’s efforts in providing hedging, financing, and investment services to institutional clients.

With more than 28 years of experience in markets and debt capital markets, Chan has held significant roles at Deutsche Bank, Nomura, and Goldman Sachs.

At Goldman Sachs, he spent over a decade, most recently serving as the Southeast Asia head for distribution in fixed income, currencies, commodities, and equities.

In his new role, Chan will oversee the strategy for offering customised solutions to Citigroup’s financial institution clients.

He will focus on the development of tailored hedging, financing, and investment services across the firm’s markets business.

Chan will report to Cecile Gambardella, who leads markets sales for Japan, Asia North, and Australia, and Sue Lee, who heads markets for Asia South.

This move follows several high-profile external hires to bolster Citigroup’s markets division in the region.

Among these recent appointments are Nattaphan Assavavisessivakul, who joined from BNP Paribas in August 2024 as head of markets for Thailand, and Anand Goyal and Ng Hooi Wan, both of whom joined from J.P. Morgan in December 2024.

Goyal will oversee FX institutional sales across Asia, while Ng will lead the markets team for Malaysia.
