ANZ is the first OCED bank outside of Japan to receive an operating license to establish a representative office in Myanmar, and the office is expected to open in early 2013.
The bank’s regional strategy is focused on greater connectivity in the Greater Mekong region that includes Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Myanmar.
Grant Knuckey, chief executive officer of ANZ Royal Bank in Cambodia, and chairman of ANZ Laos, will manage and oversee the office, located in Yangon.
"The representative office will strengthen our capacity to connect customers across our international network and to access opportunities in Myanmar, as well as connecting our clients in Myanmar with new trade and investment opportunities," said ANZ chief executive international and institutional banking Alex Thursby.
