BNY Mellon Wealth Management has bolstered its private banking operations by hiring William Johnston has as its new head of private banking solutions.

He will be lead the private bankers and escrow bankers and organize the activities of the mortgage banking officers in the market.

Johnston will also work with the firm’s regional presidents to develop and implement growth strategies.

Johnston appointment is expected to increase the firm’s nationwide sales force by 50% and add private and mortgage bankers and other professionals in key US wealth markets by the end of 2014.

Prior to joining BNY Mellon, he served as market executive for the middle market at Capital One Bank.

BNY Mellon said that over the past three years, it has bolstered the private banking group by appointing 20 client-facing professionals in Seattle, San Francisco and Chicago.
