Livery Hall Guildhall, London
The City of London has been governed from the area occupied by Guildhall for more than 800 years. Today Guildhall is home to the City of London Corporation the provider of local government services to the Square Mile and promoter of the City as the world leader in international finance and business services.
The present Guildhall was built between 1411 and 1430, although evidence suggests that a civic hall has stood here since the late 13th century. Local government developed here and its pattern has served as a model for many cities and towns.
The crypt, porch and medieval walls have twice emerged unscathed from disastrous fires. In 1666 Guildhall was caught up in the Great Fire of London and in 1940 monuments, windows and galleries were damaged and the famous statues of Gog and Magog destroyed in a single night of the Blitz. Guildhall was restored in 1954.

ELIGIBLE INSTITUTIONS FOR THE PRIVATE BANKING: LONDON 2013 INCLUDE:
FUTURE FOCUS – MAKING THE MOST OF LONDON
The development and implementation of market leading regulation means that London is staying ahead of rivals. Michael Morley, Chief Executive with Coutts & Co, explained that the introduction of RDR has seen London develop as the model to emulate in serious international wealth management centres.
Morley added that the new transparency model, matched with the long-established financial backdrop and our central location within the global time zones means that London is perfectly positioned as the international wealth management centre of choice.
“London is built around bringing people to the centre to work. There are the needed infrastructures, but also the good environment, restaurants, shop. People like living here. The city also benefits from a political stability that makes it seem a secure place.” Philip Harris, Head of UK Private Clients at RBC Wealth Management
London is still the financial capital of the world in spite of competition from Hong Kong, Singapore and New York, according to leading private bankers. But the threats to its reputation from scandals such as Libor fixing mean that there is no room for complacency.
PBI’s London Wealth Summit 2013 will bring together private banks, family offices, independent wealth managers and intermediaries to discuss the key challenges affecting the UK market and innovative strategies to keep London at the cutting edge of global wealth management trends.
