Burford Capital, a London-listed finance and professional services firm focused on law, has opened an office in Hong Kong to meet growing demand for litigation and arbitration financing in Asia.
The firm will primarily focus on insolvency claims and fund arbitration claims along with providing asset tracing and judgment enforcement services in the region.

Rupert Purser, an expert in Asian insolvency, will manage Burford’s investments in Asia. He was previously associated with Hill International, a global construction consulting firm and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Burford Capital also formed a new Asia-focused advisory board, which will be chaired by Denis Brock, chairman of O’Melveny & Myers’ international disputes and arbitration practice and the regional head of litigation for Asia.
Brock will be joined by former head of the Hong Kong Commercial Court, William Stone who is now working as an arbitrator in commercial disputes.
Charles Booth, a professor of law at the University of Hawai and previously University of Hong Kong with expertise on comparative and cross-border insolvency and commercial law, will also join the advisory board of the new firm.
