US President Barack Obama has officially nominated Janet Yellen as the next chairperson of the Federal Reserve, ending long debate over successor to Ben Bernanke.
Yellen would be the first woman to head the US central bank, arguably the most important job in world finance.

The 67-year-old economist was appointed vice-chair of the Fed in October 2010. Previously she was president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco and also served as chair of the Council of Economic Advisors from 1997 to 1999.
She has taught at Harvard University and the London School of Economics, as well as holding a series of senior administrative positions in the US.
President Obama called her one of the nation’s foremost economists and policy makers.
