Eastspring Investments, the Asia asset management arm of Prudential Corporation Asia, has appointed Gwee Siew Ping as chief risk officer.

Ping will be based in Singapore and will be responsible for expanding its distribution activities beyond Asia into new markets in the UK and Europe. She will also spearhead all compliance, risk and governance activities across Eastspring Investments.

She will be succeeding Lakshman Kumar and report to Eastspring Investments chief executive, Guy Strapp.

Kumar will retire later this year from his role as head of risk, compliance and governance.

Ping has joined Eastspring Investments from Schroders Investment Management, where she worked as regional head of compliance and risk, Asia-Pacific, and a member of the Schroders Singapore board of directors. She has joined Schroders in 1997 and held several senior compliance roles within the firm.

Prior to this, she worked for Swiss Bank Corporation and J.P. Morgan.

Strapp said: "She will contribute a combination of experience in key asset management risk and compliance oversight roles, as well as a track record in managing large regulatory programmes.
