About 58% of investors expressed interest in purchasing technology stocks this year, compared to 63% who said they were likely to invest in the sector last year, when technology was by far the favorite, the report says.

The survey also added that apart from technology stocks, financial sector has also lost in popularity from more than one-fourth last year to 18% this year.

Interest in investment real estate has double to 18%, and the appeal of precious metals such as gold has grown from 11% last year to 21% in 2012, the survey showed.
