With a target size of $150m, the fund will uncover undervalued businesses with significant growth potential in Australia.
The fund is designed for investors who seek a well-diversified portfolio of small capitalization securities and targets to provide them with a return in excess of the benchmark over a five-year rolling period.
Joel Fleming said: "Microcaps represent a vast and dynamic investment opportunity and companies in this sector tend to be under-researched and overlooked by other investors."
"A number of the positions that drove this performance were stocks that 18 months ago were trading at substantially lower levels, (most cases sub $250m), and in many cases are now part of the S&P small ordinaries accumulation index," UBS said.
