Singapore investment company Temasek has bought a significant stake in UK-based financial data provider Markit Group Ltd, for about US$500 million.

The investment will allow the London-based group to expand beyond Europe and US markets to emerging markets in Asia.

Markit said, the addition of Temasek as one of Markit’s major investors further diversifies the company’s shareholder base which includes employees, institutional funds and investment banks.

Markit CEO, Lance Uggla, said: "Temasek is an expert investor in entrepreneurial growth companies with a track record in increasing shareholder value. "
