Symphony Communication Services, a financial industry instant messaging company backed by Goldman Sachs Group has acquired Collaboration Services, an open messaging business of financial information provider Markit.

As part of the acquisition, Symphony will offer a secure directory for managing contacts across the financial services industry and nearly 20 Markit staff will move to Symphony.

Also, Symphony will fill the directory with vetted contacts from firms and users validated by network participants. The directory will enable clients to locate and contact professionals easily within the financial services industry.

The deal will see Symphony using Markit’s technology to create secure and compliant directories and communities for communication across a wide range of industries.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Markit has over 3,000 institutional customers globally, including banks, hedge funds and asset managers.
