Switzerland has reportedly handed over documents on 300 customers of UBS to French authorities suspected of evading tax.

According to Swiss newspaper SonntagsZeitung, the documents had been sent to the judicial authorites in Paris in the last few weeks.

The affected customers have not been informed, the report said.

The delivery of the documents was made possible by a revision to the Swiss Tax Administrative Assistance Act that came into force on 1 August 2014.

French investigating magistrates have proposed that UBS pay a fine of EUR4.88bn in an investigation into whether the Swiss bank helped wealthy French individuals evade tax, Reuters reported citing a judicial source.
