Sun Life Financial, a provider of protection and wealth products and services, has appointed Randolph Brown as its new chief investment officer (CIO).
He will oversee the investment operations of Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada and its general account, which had invested assets of approximately $135bn as at 30 September 2015.

Sun Life Investment Management president Steve Peacher said: "In his role, Randy will provide overall strategic direction for the investment of our general account assets and stewardship for our investment team. I expect that Randy’s insights will also be invaluable as we expand our efforts in third-party asset management."
Brown held several senior roles at Deutsche Asset and Wealth Management since 2007, most recently as global head of insurance and pension solutions and as head of asset and wealth management for the UK region.
Earlier, he was Deutsche’s co-chief investment officer responsible for a global investment staff of 750 and $1.2 trillion in assets, as well as the head of Deutsche Insurance Asset Management, managing money for insurance companies with over $200bn of assets under management.
His previously also served as BlackRock’s co-head of portfolio management of its Financial Institutions Group, where he managed $120bn in fixed income assets for a client base of more than 100 insurance companies and banks.
