Sterne, Agee & Leach, Inc., a privately-owned investment banking and brokerage firm has expanded its Global Financials platform with the addition of John A. Paulsen as Managing Director and Senior Financials Analyst.
Paulsen joined Sterne Agee’s Fixed Income Investment Grade business in June 2013 and in addition to his title of managing director will also serve as team leader for Global Financials analysis. In his new role with Sterne Agee, Paulsen will focus on foreign banks, with an emphasis on Capital Instruments – Hybrids, Preferreds, Contingent Capital Notes, and Tier 1. Paulsen will partner with Sterne Agee Managing Director Don Jones on Domestic Bank and Finance analysis and also with Senior Vice President Mark Averyt on Global Insurance to drive increased business activity across Sterne Agee’s Financial Trading effort.

Prior to his role with Sterne Agee, Paulsen served as Managing Director with Gleacher and Co., and has an extensive 30-year track record on Wall Street on both the sell-side and buy-side as an analyst and portfolio manager with firms such as Royal Bank of Scotland, CRT Capital, JP Morgan, Prudential, Kidder Peabody and Standard & Poor’s. Paulsen has a BS in International Management from Boston University and an MBA in Finance from NYU and is a CFA charterholder.
Paulsen joins the Capital Securities team headed by John Price, who joined the firm in September 2012. Mr. Price, who is responsible for Trading Capital Products, joined from BNP Paribas and has held a variety of senior roles in the Fixed Income arena. Price was previously Head of High Grade and High Yield Credit Trading at Merrill Lynch and has held positions in Fixed Income at Lehman Brothers and Morgan Stanley.
