State Street Global Advisors, the asset management unit of State Street, has named Michael Ho as the chief investment officer (CIO) for alternatives.

Ho will be tasked with managing a team that will be responsible for sketching out hedge fund strategies for institutions and intermediaries, Bloomberg reported citing a company spokesperson Brendan Paul.

Ho leads active emerging market stock investing, which he will now transfer to global head of active quantitative equity Ted Gekas.

Ho joined the firm in 2011 in the role of CIO for active emerging market equities as well as global macro capabilities.

His career also includes stint as CIO at Mellon Capital Management, where he spearheaded strategies such as global tactical allocation, fixed income as well as quantitative equity.

He also oversaw hedge fund strategies for Mellon at the start of his career.
