Standard Chartered has named Andrew Nigel Halford as new group finance director and group executive director, replacing Richard Meddings, who will step down from the board on 30 June 2014.

Based in UK, Halford will report directly to Peter Sands, the group chief executive, and will take over his new role effective 1 July 2014.

Halford has joined Standard Chartered from Vodafone Group, where he worked for 15 years, most recently serving as chief financial officer for nine years until March 2014.

He worked with Vodafone in 1999 as financial director and in 2001, became financial director for Vodafone’s Northern Europe, Middle East and Africa region. Previously, he was the chief financial officer of Verizon Wireless in the US from 2002 to 2005.

Prior to joining Vodafone, he served as group finance director at East Midlands Electricity. He is also a non-executive director of Marks and Spencer Group.
